Collinsonia Root for Varicose Veins
If you or someone you know suffers from varicose veins listen up. I have discovered something that works.
Collinsonia root, otherwise known as stone root, is a not very well known natural remedy. But it is a great remedy, and I personally can attest to its healing properties. I have tried many things to help varicose veins, and I have found only two natural things that work: the raw food diet, and collinsonia root. In this article I will discuss the benefits of collinsonia root, and how it can help your varicose veins.
Collinsonia root is an diuretic, tonic, and vulnerary. A diuretic means it increases the secretion and expulsion of urine. A tonic means it strengthens or invigorates an organ, or the entire organism. A vulnerary is something that is a healing application for wounds, a topical application. This is what most books say collinsonia root does. But somewhere, in a little whole in the wall health food store called “Atlantis Rising”, a place that had a heated brick floor, and the employees were barefoot, and they played tripee music, and had all kinds of cool raw food books, herbs, and incense....they had the biggest herb book I have ever seen in my life. Twice the size of the largest Bible I have ever seen. I was, and am still a little jealous. But it was just sitting there on a table for everyone's use.
In that book, I looked up the cure for varicose veins, this is a true story, and I found collinsonia root. I don't remember the property that they gave it in that book, but I glommed onto it, found a Naturopathic college that sold it that was close by, and began taking it. I took 2 capsules, 3 times a day, and did not change my diet, which was a pretty standard American diet, add a little more veggies and fruit. After six weeks I would wake up itching! My varicose veins had been shrinking, and I believe the itching was a sign of further healing. My husband and I were shocked at the improvement that just this one herb did for my varicose veins. We had tried other things on me, but nothing got these kinds of results.
One word of warning. Don't let anyone sell you the unground root. Buy it already ground, and put it in capsules yourself. The naturopathic college quit carrying the root because, well it's not called stone root for nothing: it broke several of their grinders!
Do a search on collinsonia root to find a supplier. It is a pretty inexpensive cure for varicose veins.

CAD-CAM Dental Abutments - How Technology is Improving Your Dental Implant Procedure
There are three main elements to every dental implant - the implant itself, the dental abutment and the dental prosthesis. Of all of these three components the abutment is the most important. In the past dentists have become frustrated with the abutment and the lack of choice available but new CAD-CAM procedures are making it easier for dentists to build a dental abutment which is customized to each of their patients. Read on to find out more about how CAD-CAM dental abutments are improving the dental implant procedure.
What is CAD-CAM?
CAD-CAM stands for Computer Aided Design and Computer Aided Manufacture. This procedure is extensively used in the manufacturing world to produce intricate and complex components which would otherwise be hard to produce using more traditional methods. Dental Implant technology has come a long way over the past few years with dentists realising that the best results come from producing components which are directly manufactured to suit the individual needs of each patient. Totally customized abutments in the past were impossible with Stock abutments being the only abutment types available. Thanks to CAD-CAM dentists now have far more control over the fit and feel of their patient's implants.
Stock Abutments
In the past the only abutments available were stock abutments. As the name suggests these abutments are pre made and sold as they are to be further refined and sculpted in the lab by your dentist. The only method of modifying these stock abutments is pure subtraction - however the abutments need to be cut with carbides, diamonds, and stone which makes the process difficult. Over the years the dental industry has seen vast improvements to stock abutments with a move towards angled and tapered abutments to provide a better more natural dental fit.
Customized Abutments
A move towards customized abutments has been seen recently. Customized abutments are abutments which utilise a casting method to improve the profile of the portion of the abutment which sits beneath the gum line. This method has been proven to correct angulation problems for patients but is extremely costly and very time consuming. It makes sense that dentists are trying to move towards faster less expensive methods of producing dental, abutments.
CAD-CAM abutments
CAD-CAM abutment manufacture allows the dentist and the lab to request a very precise and specific abutment for the implant site. This is done in conjunction with a design manufacture team such as Atlantis. Atlantis use state of the art software and milling equipment which uses the scan data from the patients dental castings to produce a completely customized abutment which is patient specific and more importantly specific for the actual implant area.
Often it is essential for a patient to wear a temporary restoration following the replacement of the implant. CAD-CAM means that delayed changes due to the healing of the site area during this time can be taken into account right up until the point at which the abutment is required. 'Gemini' and 'Gemini' plus abutments allow for these amendments.
It is apparent that new digital forms of dentistry are becoming an increasing trend and are creating a world of dentistry in which dentists are able to cater to a patients exact tooth replacement needs. The industry has grown and changed so much over the last 20 years - who knows where we will be in another 20 years.

The Bio-Neurobiology Of The Self
Like always My eyes see, my ears listen, my nose smells, my fingers touch and I cannot help cognizing and ask questions of my everyday experiences and experiences of others that reach me through one of my senses, some of them or all. So like then now it is my eye that caught some written material and threw my selfish self in to examining them in an effort to may be understand more than anything my selfish self. As I read through the material I thought if I could only understand my selfish self and be able to see it from outside of it and from a neutral vantage point what else would there be that I won't master at all. Nonetheless wherever I went and whatever I did and am able to do got me always wrapped up in my selfish self and it more and more proved to me that it is all there is in whatever ways and how it was said and done.
""The most obvious thing about you is yourself." "You look down at your body and know it is yours"." Todd Heatherton. I thought of the statement and wanted to be certain of my knowledge of myself and wished if the self within me was only the physical self and wanted so bad to fully comprehend it and master it if I may and be certain of my knowledge, but hard reality hit me so hard that it was not meant to be. It turned out that the self was much more than the macroscopic physical. It also has what is called the spiritual psychological and more aspects to it. The certainty of the self by the self simply dissipates in to the thin air as I try to examine it even further and the self assurance about the knowledge of the self appealed to me as somewhat far fetched. The day to day discoveries and the new lights that are being shed about the inner and outer workings of our self tells a story of even more unknowns and what we know of our self is barely a scratch on the surface of a very large stack yet to be known and ever.
"When you wake up in the morning, you don't have to interrogate yourself for a long time about who you are." Todd Heatherton. The statement makes it as though we have never had a question or a doubt about who we are and why we are , but the fact remains that the overwhelming part of out every day activities are related and are about finding our self, making our self, changing our self sustaining our self and maintaining our self, all in all whether we say it in a single sentence or thousand paragraphs, whether we ask it directly or not the selfish self often and always takes precedence and primacy. In our daily all encompassing and comprehensive activities, actions, reactions, Cognitions and recognitions we do define and redefine ourselves and I am afraid if we are so sure of why we do so with certainty. If there is anything certain that we have asked enough times who we are and why we are, where we came from and where we want to go and are going, these are questions that are in every ones head without being framed may be in an elitist word framing. And what everyone does revolves around the same issues with varying probability of knowing the answers, but with certain truth of never certainty. Even the questions we ask of others come around often as question about our self and we can't escape the fact that it is all about the selfish self. It often is about acquisition of knowledge, material, position, notoriety or something of value here or in the hereafter. The complete knowledge of the self is the ultimate and as such remains always less than certain.
As we go through life every day we wake up, I feel like, what we do is interrogate our selves of who we are, how our poison has changed and how to best react to it contrary to the statement quoted, in all and many things we do, think and imagine. Indeed we have the greatest interest in ourselves and interest is dependent on the degree of exposure to the subject of interest, and the self more than anything else is exposed to the self itself. May be the root of selfishness lies in the exposure of the self to the self more than the not self and there is no way of exposing the not self to the self more the self itself to the self, thus instilling the selfishness permanently in the self and may be a falls sense of complete self awareness as well. "" Heatherton himself shied away from direct study of it for years, even though-"My interests were around the self but not around the philosophical issues of what is the self."
Things have changed today, Today Heatherton, along with a growing number of scientists, is tackling the question head on, seeking to figure out how the self emerges from the brain. In the past few years, they have begun to identify certain brain activities that may be essential for producing different aspects of self awareness. They are now trying to determine how these activities give rise to the unified feeling we each have of being a single entity. This research is yielding clues to how the self evolved in our hominid ancestors. It may even help scientists treat Alzheimer's disease and other disorders that erode the knowledge of the self and in some cases destroy it altogether." It is rather the philosophical self that interested me the most than the mechanical descript self, not that I understood it but I am intrigued by it. It raises questions more than I could speculate and ask of the readers of this article and knowledgeable people if I may and pose them directly. Is the self a collection of memories? Cognitive and reactive process?, Will the self cease to exist when the mind (brain )ceases?, When the subjective self (mind or brain, or consciousness and memory) ceases will the objective self turn in to an automaton and mechanical being?, Are other animals, plants and inanimate that go through motion purposeful, intentional, disciplined, ordered and unique motion self aware?, If not why not?, When the self that is self aware ceases will the self that is not self aware remain? Is the objective self a reality of the subjective self or is it the subjective self the reality of the objective self? Or does the objective self exist independently of the subjective self and the vice versa? Is the subjective self the extension of the objective self or is it the objective self the extension of the subjective self?
As a matter of everyday practice it seems the subjective self to act as its sole purpose and intent to protect, preserve, sustain and propagate the objective self. If subjective reasoning alone were enough to answer it all, I would have had mine, but reason fails short and reality often times defy reason and it is often reality that has to be reasoned than reason define reality, therefore a dose of objective reality may be is in order and in time for a comprehensive understanding of the issues raised and points reiterated. " Further clues have emerged from injuries that affect some of the brain rejoins involved in the self .Gage, a 19th century railroad construction foreman who was standing in the wrong place at the wrong time when a dynamite blast sent a tamping iron through the air. It passed through Gage's head, and yet, astonishingly, Gage survived. Gages friends though noticed something had changed. Before the accident he had been considered an efficient worker and shrewd businessman. Afterward he became profane, showed little respect for others and had a hard time settling plans for the future. His friends he was "no longer Gage." Cases like Gage's showed that the self is not the same as consciousness. People can have an impaired sense of themselves without being unconscious." As is indicated by the awareness of the amnesiac of all things about him it rather seems as though the self is a physiological and psychological construct of information that precedes it. As such as long as the physical construct of this precedent information is intact the self will retain its self awareness which is ingrained in its genes. This self awareness which is to serve in the fulfillment of the selfish needs of the self necessitates the awareness of the environment in which the self finds itself in. it is therefore this secondary awareness that is to be called consciousness. It is an awareness the helps the self act and react in ways and times that its interest are best served by. As every existence is a relativistic phenomenon, it would rather make the complication easier to understand if we have to conclusively argue whether the self is absolute relative to the not sell or the self is yet a relative reality to the not self. If we claim the self is an absolute reality then the self exists independently of consciousness and if we claim the other way around then the self ceases upon cessation of consciousness. As indicated in the article , the retention of the information about the self while all memory is wiped out by amnesia seems to attest to the fact that the self does not exist because X or Y existed, but because of the information upon which it was constructed that determined its intent, shape, color, purpose and destiny and consciousness helped best accomplish these predeterminations in an environmental constraints.
"At the university college of London, researchers have been using brain scans to decipher how we become aware of our own bodies." This is the very basic law-level first point of the self "UCLA's Sara Jayne Blakemore says. When our brains issue a command to move a part of our bodies, two signals are sent. One goes to the brain region that control the particular parts of the body that need to move, and the other goes to the region that monitor the movement. Our brains then use this copy to predict what kind of sensation the action will produce. If the actual sensation we receive does not closely match our prediction, our brains become aware of the difference. But if the sensation does not match our prediction at all, our brains interpret them as being caused by something other than ourselves. Blakemore and her colleagues documented this shift by scanning the brains of subjects they had hypnotized. When the researchers told the subjects their arms were being lifted by a rope and pulley, the subjects lifted their arms. But their brains responded as if someone else were lifting their arms, not themselves." As untenable as it seems it rather is a fact that the objective self is existent independently of the subjective self (the mind) but too mechanically. The subjective self does not only interpret coordinate and give meaning to the environment the objective self is in but also gives the essence of the self itself in relation to everything and anything within its environmental constraints and how it reacts to and interacts with the elements of its environment. The brain that generates the subjective self seems rather an information in, information processing and information out center that where when and how it gets its imputes determine how it will react and what it puts out when it puts out what it does as its purpose and duty.
"Heatherton and his colleagues at Dartmouth have been using the technology to probe the mystery of why people remember information about themselves better than details about other people. They imaged the brains of volunteers who viewed a series of adjectives. In some cases, the researchers asked the subjects whether a word applied to the subjects themselves. In others, they asked if a word applied to George W.Bush. In still other cases, they asked simply whether the word was shown in uppercase letters. They found that questions about the self activated some regions of the brain that questions about someone else did not their results bolstered the "self is special" hypothesis over "the self is familiar" view." The special self and the familiar self are separate and in essence and are intertwined in purpose.
While the special self is the information upon which the physical self and the psychological self is constructed on, the familiar self to me is the conscious self that determines the position of the special self in relation to its environment and helps act in the best interest of the special self. There is no time or space separation between the self and the information about the self. The information about anything else is separated from the self by distance and time. The self is constantly accumulating and accessing information about itself. The self and about the self are intertwined and inseparable unlike the self and about the not self. Information may be filled separately and in categories, yet the fire about the self may be the most important and may be the most significant of them all. "When we are in new circumstances, our sense of our self depends on thinking explicitly about our experiences. Soccer players know whether they are athletic, strong or swift without having to consult their memories." It is rather indicative of the fact that the special self is very much dependent on its consciousness of the environment it find itself in to react in ways and manners its interests are best met. When the self knows and knows well and is familiar with the environment it finds itself in, thinking becomes un necessary, logical construction becomes redundant and the facts become self evident. "The primate ancestors of humans probably had the basic bodily self awareness that is studied by Blakemore and her associates." I wondered if at all there is any living thing that is not self aware. How is this awareness expressed other than being active in the self preservation and primacy of the self? All living things are self reproductive, self preservative and self protective and knows its relative position in its environment and acts and reacts in ways and manners it is able to survive and thrive; what possibly be the so called self awareness if not all these and more? "The self requires time to develop fully. Psychologists have long recognized that it takes a while for children to acquire a stable sense of who they are. "They have conflicts in their self-concepts that don't bother them at all."Lieberman comments. "little kids don't try to tell themselves, 'I' am still the same person.' They just don't seem to connect up the little pieces of the self-concept."" If I am spared of the possible label of someone playing in semantics and engaged in hair splitting I would like to not that there is nothing at all that had happened happens and will happen in no time and in no stages. Even instantaneity is a relative short period. I cannot agree any less that self awareness takes time while the self is a physical construct of the information that preceded it, it does not only predate self awareness, but is there from the initial date of its complete construction when ever that may be. It seems the self goes through stages of cognition of its environment, compilation of the facts of its environment, understanding of its environment, determining the self's position in the environment and acting in the best interest of the self within the environmental constraints.
While the last two of the process described are attributable to self awareness the former four stages are only precursors to self awareness. May be children's conflict of self concept that don't bother them are indicative of the developmental stage to self awareness than it is physiological (biological) (self) developmental stage. The self awareness of the self goes way passed the developmental stages of the brain to the very origin of life itself as a product of self awareness .As it is attested to and proved over and again programs of self propulsion, development, reproduction and ability to choose are ingrained in the fundamental elements of life precedent cellular construction. It poses a dynamism where change in quantity and quality in time and space are among the prevalent character threats. As stated by Robert Shapiro's " A simpler Origin for Life" Scientific American June , 2007 " Muller's Remarks would be in accord with what has been called the NASA definition : Life is a self sustained chemical system capable of undergoing Darwinian evolution" I as a lay person wouldn't have agreed less except for the two things I need to elaborate or needed be elaborated by some who are more able than I. It is the convergence of among the chemical, mechanical, electrical and even gravitational self sustenance as we prove in to the very fundamentals existence and succumb to simply in to being a product of change in space in time following or governed by a precedent information. As it is guided and goes through self sustaining change in time in space gathers information that helps it undergo Darwinian evolution in effect Darwinian evolution is cumulative information gathered to help self sustenance in time and space.

4 Important Qualities Needed for Success in Business
Salespeople and business owners enter the business world with the best intentions. They're committed to their firms, and - at least initially - are very enthusiastic and energetic. They envision great success early on, which should lead to sustained growth and prosperity. At some point even the most driven business people get into a rut. It's the rut of complacency, and can quickly lead to diminished confidence and sales.
Review and implement these four tips to give you back your winning edge.
Maintain a strong work ethic: Arrive early, and work late. Put in a full day's worth of work. That includes productive use of e-mail, letters, web research, and other duties. Specific tasks vary by industry and position. But one facet never varies: success is directly related to the amount of productive labor invested. Once referrals and repeat business begin to roll in, you may be able to cut back on prospecting and other marketing efforts.
Some other qualities to remember:
- Keep your promises. If you said you'd reply to the message by 2:00 p.m., do so. Similarly, if you promised some follow-up information by a certain date, make sure it's on the way. Of course, sometimes you're unable to meet a promise by the expected time. Contact your customer with an update. Let him or her know you're still working on the issue. Customers appreciate being kept informed.
- Provide what you said you would. All information should be complete and comprehensive. Careless and sloppy salespeople quickly slap out e-mails and letters, hoping the customer won't notice. Conscientious salespeople take the time to produce thorough work: the kind of work they are proud to attach their names to.
- Honesty is the best policy. A business person without integrity is a business person who will soon be out of business.
Offer added value: Phrases such as "Going above and beyond" and "Exceeding expectations" have become cliches. What do they mean, and more importantly, do you actually accomplish either? If your customers don't see you as offering anything different from the competition, the buying decision will probably hinge on price. If yours is higher than the norm, you can set yourself apart by offering more value.
Some possibilities include an enhanced warranty, extended customer service hours (ideally, 24/7), on-site training (if applicable), free shipping, a 60-day trial period with money-back guarantee, and so forth. Most, if not all would have to be cleared by management, of course. Offering any of these services, particularly in an industry not known for doing so, can mean the difference between an RFP and a sale.
These difficult economic times are forcing businesses to be more careful with their expenses. If you can offer your clients more bang for the buck, you are much more likely to retain them.
Take care of your customers: The test of a good salesperson is how he or she responds to a problem. Do you handle the complaint gracefully and offer a satisfying solution? You should, because you and your firm are being judged during this difficult time. Be a stellar salesperson, and your client will remain a customer.
Use other opportunities to maintain a solid relationship. Send greeting cards throughout the year. Drop off a gift on occasion. Tickets to a sporting event or concert are often well received. Another great idea, touted by renowned sales expert Jeffrey Gitomer: Arrange a breakfast or lunch with two customers who would make great clients of each other. You help them make sales and come off as a hero in the process.
Along those lines, invite a client to a networking function, and introduce the person to people you feel would make good prospects. In both cases you're genuinely trying to help your customers succeed. "What about me?" you ask? Your day will come. Put your customers' needs first. They will reward you with loyalty.
Research the 'net for useful information you can send to your customers. This could be links to blogs, videos, or e-zines. Doing so helps you stay abreast of that industry, as well.
Of course, you will buy from or refer your customers whenever possible.
Continue with professional development: Learning is a lifelong process, and continuing education is the foundation of any successful career. Successful people in any field and position will tell you they are constantly nourishing their minds with information. They purchase DVDs, CDs, and books, and attend seminars and workshops on a regular basis. Top performers realize that in order to stay that way they must always be in learning mode. So should you.
If you haven't done so already, start a library devoted to professional development. There are thousands of products to choose from - with new books, DVDs and other items being published everyday - so you need to narrow your focus. If you're not sure what to buy, ask your mentor or other successful person. Buy a good mix of sales, motivational, and leadership development materials. Spend 15 to 20 minutes each day exposing yourself to that knowledge. It will pay dividends over time.
Regularly analyze your efforts to see where you can improve. How many sales calls or other contacts do you make each week, and what is your closing ratio? Are your communication skills still top notch? Invest the time and money (if needed) to sharpen your skills. Doing so will help you stay ahead of the competition.

Evolv Water Review
In the following few short minutes, I'm going to be exposing all the information you need to know about the this new MLM. Does this company have what it takes to be the next billion dollar brand in the network marketing arena? Only time will tell.
Founder and Corporate Staff
Founded by successful entrepreneur Trey White, this company has a promising future. Trey, has been said to invest in people first and then products and technologies.
In doing so, he has proved again to form one of the most powerful corporate teams in the MLM industry. This team additionally consists of the following people:
Brent Hicks- CEO
Justin White - Chief Information Officer
Dr. Anne Bodak Smith - Vice President of Sales
Trey has a successful background in many different markets some of which are the following, real estate and alternative energies.
Trey has been responsible in creating the first internet portal for searching real estate listings. He successfully launched HomeStore.com (a merger of HomeBuider.com & Realtor.com), raised $800 Million with two public offers where HomeStore.com reached a stock high of $160 per share.
In 2002, Trey provided the start up capitol for a dominating Real Estate firm in Texas named Marlin Atlantis (where both Brent Hicks and Just White come from). Marlin Atlantis currently holds around 20,000 single family lots and is in the process of creating a $500 Million Dollar Theme Park.
In 2003, Trey founded White Energy that is now responsible for producing 250 Million gallons of ethanol. White Energy is currently the fifth largest US producer and largest Texas refiner of Ethanol.
Product
At first you say, what's so special about this water?
Nothing!
With the water itself anyway.
You see it's not really the water at all. It's what is IN THE WATER that you should know about. The water is just the vehicle that delivers the real product into your body.
So what's in the water?
I'm glad you asked!
The technology found in the water is based off of three men: Gene Kaiser, Dr. Jock Collins and his twin brother. Together these three men patented a process in 1996 for the bioremediation industry. (Bioremediation is a process with the use of enzymes and microbes return a contaminated environment back to its original condition.) Their secret formula would speed up the restoration efforts by increasing oxygen to the bioremediation enzymes.
Within a short time later, these three men developed ways to introduce this technology into food-grade extracts and enzymes that would be safe for human consumption.
Well it didn't take long for people to start seeing REAL RESULTS. Soon people were traveling miles around to get some of this secret named the Archaea Active formula.
So shortly after, these three men decided to take their Archaea Active formula to the marketplace.
Together they decided that the best way to introduce this new technology to the human body was naturally though the use of water. Thus Evolv was born.
So when it comes down to "what's in the bottle that's special?" It's not the pure spring water. It's the Archaea Active found within.
According to the company in review, the benefits are:
Increase stamina and endurance
Increase energy levels
Enhanced absorption of vitamins, minerals, amino acids, protiens and other important nutrients
Recover from fatigue
Healthy immune systems
Heightened concentration and alertness
Improved memory
Stress and anxiety relief
All of that is great, but now there's just one problem... what will it do for you?
There's only one way to find out and that's to get some for yourself.
The Compensation
As you might expect, there seems to be a rather "liquid" compensation plan. Also to be expected, the compensation utilizes the more modern and growing popular binary hybrid compensation model.
There are 6 ways to earn money with this company (10 including all the bonuses).
Fast Start Bonus - FSB (1st 4 weeks)
Binary (Non-FSB Orders)
Rank Advancement Bonuses
Binary Check Match
Additional Bonuses
Benz and Bentley Car Program
If you are currently considering to partner with this company, then your focus should be on achieving (at the very minimum) the rank of Executive Director. This is where the compensation plan really starts to open up. This is where you will be able to match the check of your personally sponsored reps to 50%. An almost unheard of % in todays MLM compensations.
However... there is a rather large problem with that task.
Final Thoughts
As expected, Trey White has really created an MLM beauty and I expect this company to be one of the fastest growing and one of the most well respected companies in this industry.
However, as with most MLM opportunities, you can bet that most distributors will use most of the old school methods of chasing down friends and family to recruit them into the opportunity (with an exception of a few).
Since I happen to know a rather large portion of the quality leadership (personally), I know that there will be multi millionaires within a few short years.
However, where the majority of distributors will fail is when it comes down to the income needed for most people to cover their autoships and even harder, the rank level to replace their current income.
That rank level is undoubtably the Executive Director Level. This is where you (as a sponsoring distributor) will tap into 50% check matching bonus of those who've you have personally sponsored. Now I know there are many other ways to earn money in this company, but this particular part of the compensation plan is where income starts to widen. And that is the problem.
In today's economy, you can't afford to not take a look at marketing online nor over look the shear power of modern technology. Just image if you were still using a rotary phone. The old school methods are that out dated.
It's time for you to Evolv or Revolve.

Attractive Themes And Ideas For Summer Camp
Whether you are planning a summer camp or planning on going to summer camp, it is a good idea to have a plan of action. As a camp coordinator, you have to plan events, activities and entertainment for the participants. There are many themes you can come up with, but to get the most participation out of a theme you have to make them sound fun and attractive. Remember that camp is about fun and enjoyment. As a camp participant you want your stay at camp to be enjoyable and something that will create memories of a lifetime.
When coming up with ideas for activities you need to know all about the facilities and their accommodations. Do you have a gym, baseball and football field, or a place to implement these types of games? Do you have hiking trails, lakes, rivers, boats, canoes, swimming, snorkeling or diving? You should have all this information available to you as to be able to fulfill a complete and full schedule for your participants.
Now that you have the information on what capabilities your facility has you can start making your plans. First you have to make the decisions on what type of activities or events you are going to do. Play games, cooking, nature hikes and exploration, mystery excursions, and so on. After you have come up with everything you are planning on doing, you then need to name your events. To name your events, you really need to be creative. You want to make the sound fun and exciting. But at the same time you do not want to over glorify the names as to lead to disappointment to the participants. You need to pick a name that will make the participants excited to participate without giving false expectations on what the program is all about.
Say if you are going to have an outdoor cooking activity, you need to come up with a unique name for it. Let's say something like, Cooking In The Wild. Now that you have your theme, how are you going to implement it? Would you make burgers on the grill? What would you call them to give it some excitement, Survivor Burgers, after the television show Survivor? It takes a lot of time, planning and creativity to make any event a success.
I have listed some ideas below that could be a theme for an event along with a suggested description of what that event might entail.
Wonders of Nature
For this event you might want to venture into insects, rodents, land formations, mosses, trees or birds. This type of event of has many options to choose from.
All Stars
For this event you would set up sporting games. Be if football, basketball, soccer, water balloons, Frisbee events and what ever other activities in the sporting them you can come up with.
Survivor
This is an event that could be set up on the television series "Survivor". You can set up treasure hunts, obstacle courses or play a creative game on survival.
Splash
This event name could be for your water adventures. You could play water volley ball, canoeing, swimming competitions, diving competitions or snorkeling.
A Day In The Knight
This event could be geared to learning about knighthood. You could get out the turkey legs and maybe play some knight games.
American Idol
This event since it is so popular on television would be a great event for the participants. They could all have a singing competition and let the participants be the judges.
The Red Light Special
This event could involve the Police and Fire Departments. They are usually more than will to volunteer their time for events with children. If there are K-9's they could give a demonstration. If there is a rescue diving team they could also give a demonstration. I would try to be more original on this event as most schools already have the police and firemen come to visit them on fire and protection issues. If they have access to the survive alive house, see if it would be possible for them to bring is also.
Around The World
This event could involve learning other countries customs. Another great idea for this would be to have the participants make some ethnic foods and sample foods from different countries.
Pick Your Star
This event could involve some astrology and learn the constellations. Each participant could also pick a star that is their own, giving them a certificate of ownership.
The Sweet Tooth
This event could involve children's favorite foods. They might make cakes, cookies or candies.
So as you can see, there is a lot of time and effort that goes into the implementation of setting up Summer Camp themes. But with due diligence you will get the job accomplished and the participants will have a great time and something they will remember for a life time.

God - The Greatest Mystery
"I would rather live my life as if there is a God and die to find out there isn't, than live my life as if there isn't and die to find out there is." -Albert Camus
The question is not whether God is but what God is?
There is no concept that is as differently defined, evokes as many different reactions and is yet as powerful as the concept of God. Since childhood all of us are told by our parents and others about the greatness, power and glory of the lord. But the concept is generally told at a superficial level without being clearly or deeply explained or understood. The tests of rigorous logic and the new knowledge revealed by science are often not applied to this concept of god.
The concept of god probably had its origins in man's search for answers about his environment and about his own purpose in life. The concept is older than most of the organized religions that exist today. Most likely the concept developed with the development of language and human thought. The concept is not static; it has changed over time and will change in the future. Primitive man feared, worshiped and was in awe of the forces of nature like the sun, clouds, rain, thunder etc and also personified them. He also worshiped inanimate objects like stones and mountains. But as human knowledge progressed, man came to know that these things were not God but mere creations of god. In the past there were a number of mythological gods as well like the Roman and Greek gods who are no longer worshiped.
In present times the most popular view about god considers him to be Transcendent (beyond the world) as well as Immanent (present within the world). The first attribute emphasizes his independence from and power over the world and the second one emphasizes his hold over and participation in the world process. He is also visualized in a personal way i.e. he is supposed to have a direct relationship with the individual; he listens to the individual's prayers, helps him in distress and rewards or punishes him according to his actions. God is also believed to be omnipotent (all powerful), omniscient (all knowing), omnipresent (present everywhere), infinite and eternal having no beginning or end in either space or time. God is also associated with certain human characteristics or emotions like love, goodness, mercy, forgiveness etc.
It is interesting to note the similarities about the concept of god in various religions. The attributes of a transcendent and an immanent god that are expressed in Gita find a resemblance to those in the Bible, the Koran and some other religious texts. There are other similarities as well in these texts. For eg. the rules of conduct of a yogi (Hindu ascetic) and the Ten Commandments have much in common. Now some people may think that these are a result of similar divine revelations or of borrowings from each other. But I believe that this is a case of parallel development of thought. As man is searching for a higher reality above him, so its characteristics must be far greater than those of man. As man is not omnipotent, god must be. As man cannot be omnipresent, god must be. As man is not omniscient, god must be. As man has a beginning and an end, god must be infinite. I suggest that if there are intelligent living beings on other planets, and I believe there are, then their concept of god will also be similar to ours, at least at some point of time in their existence. This will be because those living beings will share some characteristics with us humans. They will be born and will die. Like us they will not be omnipotent, omnipresent or omniscient. But like our god, there god will be. I also suggest that if intelligent living beings on another planet are involved in a struggle for existence as beings on earth are, then their concept of a personal god will also be similar to our concept. Their god will also be loving, caring, helpful, merciful and forgiving because in a situation of struggle for survival, qualities like non injury, love, mercy, forgiveness etc. will be virtues anywhere, everywhere.
However, if we examine the most popular concept and attributes of god, we will find that there are some inconsistencies. These inconsistencies surface on applying new scientific knowledge or tricky but logical questions. I read one such question which challenges God's omnipotence in Stephen Hawking's "A Brief History of Time". Can god make a stone which he cannot lift? If he can but cannot lift it then he has limits and if he cannot make it, then it is also a limit to his powers. Another question challenges god's omniscience. Does god know his limits? If he does, he has a limit and if he does not then also his knowledge is limited. It is within a man's reach to give up his powers, position and even his life. But can god do that? Can god commit suicide?
We often read or hear about the concept of predestination. It means that whatever happens, happens according to the will of god. Nothing is beyond his will. If a person does something good, it is because of god's will and if he does something bad, it is also due to god's will. Even the fact that a person is a believer or an atheist is the will of god. But if every act is willed by god, so why does he apply the measures of right or wrong to human actions? Why does he reward or punish? Even if a person kills, it is the will of god. So why should he go to hell? For obeying god? In fact by the above logic, everybody should go to heaven. So even Chengiz Khan and Hitler should go to heaven. There is no need for hell. If a person dies a natural death, we say that god took him away, that his time had come. But when somebody dies in an accident or is murdered, we bay for the culprits blood. Is it not contradictory?
Some people do not believe in predestination but believe that god has given man free will. But if man has free will, it means that god does not know beforehand what is going on in this world. He is not aware of what you or I are going to do in the next moment. This puts a limit to his omniscience. The concept of free will is also qualified by the concepts of heaven and hell. If god gives us a free will then why does he reward or punish us for using it as we like? If after giving us a free will, he expects us to use it according to his wish as revealed through divine revelations, then what type of a free will is this? Is not god being whimsical? Then are we a result of god's whims rather than his glory? In the later part of this book, we will go a bit deeper into this concept of the free will.
When I was in school, we were told in our moral science book that if two enemy soldiers fight, kill and die in battle, both will go to heaven. If that is true, then the perpetrators of 9/11 should also go to heaven as many radical Muslims think. After all they gave up their lives for their people and their faith. They believed as sincerely in their cause as a soldier who is ready to lay down his life for his people. The Nazis also believed in the justness of their cause. Their soldiers also fought WW II for their people and their country.
We generally think of god in terms of his relationship with man. But it is also pertinent to ask what is god's relationship with the grass which always gets eaten or trampled or with the deer or sheep which becomes the victim of the lion. Is god closer to the lion than to the sheep? Does he favour the strong and not the meek? Or does he not care at all about lower beings?
The concept of an immanent and personal god has also come under threat with the growth of science. That is why religious leaders are generally critical about scientific discoveries and inventions. We once believed that god created man as he is. We believed that god created the earth. We believed that the earth was flat. We also believed that the earth was stationary and that the sun revolved around the earth. But new discoveries in biology, geography, geology and space science have proved these concepts wrong. So if god did not create the earth or man, would he still care to have a direct personal relation with man, would he still observe each human activity and then judge him? We now know that the universe is much larger than what we imagined before. Our earth is just on of the nine planets of a medium sized star which is one of the billions and billions of stars in our galaxy the milky way. And the milky way is just one of the billions and billions of galaxies in the visible part of the universe. So in a universe which is so large that the earth is just like a speck of dust, would god give so much importance to man? It is indeed flattering to think that.
Some people say that our conscience is the voice of god. It tells us what is good or bad. When I was in school my moral science book told me something similar. But this view is absolutely incorrect. In fact our conscience is shaped largely by our socio cultural environment. It is based on the beliefs, customs, traditions, sense of right and wrong within our social group. For a Muslim, eating meat would not bother his conscience but for a Jain who is brought up on the idea of non violence, it might prick his conscience. If a vegetarian or even a non vegetarian Hindu eats beef, his conscience will be pricked because beef eating is taboo in Hinduism. In societies that allow cross cousin marriages, you can think about your cousin as a prospective spouse but in societies that do not allow such marriages, such thoughts might make you feel guilty.
I have heard, read and seen on television about people claiming to have come in contact with god through meditation or intuition or revelation. But this is actually no more than a psychological state. Considering the orderliness of this universe, it seems strange that god reveals himself to ordinary people like you and me in such a random manner. And is it not hard to believe that a person who comes in contact with god, the ultimate reality, continues to live like other human beings, he eats and sleeps like us and even needs the same air we breathe? Neurological researches by doctors and scientists have revealed that people who take psychotropic drugs also have such strange experiences. I have also read about and watched people on TV who claim to have died and to have had a glimpse of the other world. But doctors explain these experiences as merely psychological. They tell us that these could be a way in which the human brain tries to get away from excessive pain. I have also noted in my readings that near death experiences are often culture dependant. Some Christians claim to have reached a garden with angels in it (the story of Adam and Eve?). Some Hindus on the other hand claim to have been taken to heaven by yamdoots i.e. the messengers of yamraj the Hindu god of death. If anybody says that if he comes in contact with god after drinking whisky or while intercourse, can we prove him wrong? Infact there were cults in ancient and medieval India (like the tantric cult) which claimed that the path to god lay through 5 Ms namely Madira (alcohol), Maansa (meat), Matsya(fish), Maithun(intercourse) and Mudra(dance). Similar is the case of people who claim to have met god. Difficult to believe but equally difficult to prove wrong.
It is said that worship helps because god listens to your prayers and answers them. No doubt worship relaxes your mind and gives you a positive psychology. Science agrees that worship and meditation have a good effect on the brain and the body. It has been observed in experiments that meditation is linked to the release of useful chemicals in the brain. But it does not mean that god is listening to your prayers and sending his blessings to you. By that logic, Jains who do not believe in a personal god should get no benefit at all from worship. Followers of primitive religions who worship trees, animals, stones and mountains should also not benefit. But they do. Their prayers also get answered. Because worship is a psychological exercise. There is a science behind worship. It releases the stress on your mind and body and keeps you in better shape.
When Pope John Paul II was bedridden, millions of people all round the world prayed for his recovery. John Paul was not only the head of the Roman Catholic Church, he was also a very wonderful person. But still god took him away and the prayers of the people went unanswered. On the other hand, Terry Schiavo an ordinary and till recently unknown woman was kept alive by the feeding tube for 15 long years. No doubt science was not developed enough to make her normal but it nevertheless kept her alive. So who proved more powerful, the prayers or the feeding tube? When I discussed these things with my friends and colleagues, some of them said that the pope died because the time of death is fixed, it comes when it has to. Alright, if death must come at the fixed hour, then why do we punish murderers? They should rather be respected for being instrumental in the execution of god's will.
If god listens to our prayers, whom will he treat better, a person who is an atheist but a good human being or a believer who is otherwise a criminal. If in a 100 metres race, there are 8 contestants and only one can win, who will win, one who worships regularly or who works the hardest but is an atheist. If the atheist wins, does it mean that deed is greater than prayer? Some people may say that god helps those who help themselves. But those who help themselves may not need god for help. Lord Byron, Voltaire, Mark Twain, Karl Marx, Charles Darwin, Albert Einstein, Bertrand Russel, Sigmund Freud and Stephen Hawking were either atheists or did not believe in a personal god. But they did help themselves and their achievements helped the entire mankind.
I have accepted above that worship is a useful tool even if it does not involve god. But I have met people who are so over zealous about the concept of worship that they assign miracles to it. This is the reason I want to suggest a simple experiment to verify this claim. I admit it sounds a little unethical but to a believer, it should not cause any worries. I recommend that we select a good ordinary God fearing person about whom there is a consensus amongst religious leaders of various faiths. Scientists should inoculate him with a common but serious disease about which science is sure that it cannot be treated except by medicine and that if untreated, it will only get worse with time. We shall confine our friend to a house in hygienic environment and provide him hygienic food. Then all the believers of the world including our friend himself shall pray for his recovery. As our friend is himself religious and as he believes that prayers reach God and as he knows that people around the world are praying for him, his frame of mind will also be positive. We should observe our friend for a sufficiently long time say a few months. If in that period, he recovers then it will prove that God answers our prayers. But if his health deteriorates to the point of no return, then it would be obvious that God does not answer our prayers. Then it will prove that worship is a mere psychological phenomenon not a divine one. This experiment will also tell us something about the relationship of God with man and about the existence of a personal God.
I would also say that our concept of God may be limited by the boundaries of human knowledge, thought and language. God may possess dimensions and attributes about which we are unaware, which we do not know or can not feel. Animals do not think about God because they have limited mental facilities. But are our mental facilities developed enough to know God? Also I would want to know as to why God is always regarded as male and never as female. Is it because our society has been traditionally male dominated? Here I would like to quote the great Greek philosopher Epicurus who did not think much about the concepts of god and afterlife-
Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able?
Then he is not omnipotent.
Is he able, but not willing?
Then he is malevolent.
Is he both able and willing?
Then whence cometh evil?
Is he neither able nor willing?
Then why call him God?
Even though I do not believe in the concept of an immanent personal God, I do not denigrate it as Proudhon did. On the other hand I think that it is a beautiful concept and is of much use. The concept of God in fact performs the very important task of helping in survival of mankind. When man did not have many answers about his surroundings or about his own purpose in life, the concept of God provided an answer. (Before Darwin we did not know that all life exists to survive and reproduce). The concept also provided sanction to religion, the force that guided human affairs for thousands of years. God's sanction makes a religion infallible and unquestionable. From the general behavior of people, we can make out that the most common reasons for worshiping God are fear, anxiety, helplessness and powerlessness. The greater the fear, the uncertainty, the helplessness, the greater is the need of God. When you get a simple headache, you do not pray to God because you know that a simple tablet will take care of that but when you get a deadly disease, you ask God for help. Have you observed how students suddenly become religious during examination days? Because there is pressure, fear and uncertainty. When we are in difficulty, we pray to God, beg his forgiveness and even make promises to him. If somebody close to you does not return home tonight, you will start by searching for him yourself. Then you will report to police, and then you will turn to God for help. If the search goes on a little longer, you may even go to a place of worship. If things do not improve even then, you will go to places of worship with greater fame, or will make bigger promises to God. Some people may even visit religious places connected with other faiths to get their wish fulfilled. As the situation becomes more uncertain, you try harder to get more divine help.
Have you ever wondered why people who believe in God never search for him. Have you thought how little time people devote to God. If God is the ultimate reality, the highest truth, then should not people do much more to know about him? But they do not, because to the majority of believers, it actually does not matter whether God exists or not. People do not care much about God. They give more importance to making their lives comfortable, to their careers to looking after their families or to attracting the opposite sex. It is sufficient for most people that he exists to solve their problems, to help them in distress, to take care of them. That is why most of our prayers involve either seeking favours from him or thanking him for what he has given to us. When we are kids, we think that our parents can solve all our problems. So whenever we need help or assurance, we run to our parents. But as we grow up, our problems get bigger and our parents seem helpless. So we need God. As we grow older, our problems become even bigger. We ourselves become physically weak. Disease and pain increase and our hold over our surroundings starts to loosen. We become more powerless. And so our faith in God increases all the more. A survey of the religious places in free liberal societies all over the world will show that the greatest frequency of visits to these places is that of middle and old age people or of those caught in mundane problems of life. In the final analysis, for the vast majority of the people, the concept of God proves to be most useful as a means to the Darwinian goal of survival and perhaps that is what it is. Perhaps God exists because man needs him to exist. That is why I said earlier that it is a beautiful concept.
In my discussions with people, I have found that it is a common view that absence of faith in God will lead to chaos, confusion, greed, violence and immorality. But I do not agree with this view. Has faith in God made people moral? Has it made people upright? Has it prevented people from exploiting other people? Did it prevent slavery and slave trade? Did it prevent people from fighting catastrophic wars or from killing others in riots? The people who dropped the nuclear bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki were believers. Those who exterminated Jews in Europe were not atheists either. On the other hand there are religious like Jainism and Buddhism which have no place for an immanent personal God but which lay as much stress on love, compassion, upright living, morality, non injury etc as any other religion. In fact the history of their origin, growth and spread is much less violent than those of many other believing, theistic religions. In Hinduism, two of the six schools of philosophy namely Samkhya and Vaisheshika explicitly do not believe in the concept of God. But they do not preach violence, hatred or greed. What I want to say is that absence of belief in God will not lead to disorder, violence and immorality per se. Infact it might make people more responsible about the consequences of their actions.
There are people who are pantheists. They believe that the cosmic order is God. This view was prevalent amongst ancient Indian philosophers and Greek thinkers. Some people even believe that Einstein's formula E=mc2 (Energy=mass of an object multiplied by the square of the speed of light i.e. 1.6 lakh miles per second) is in fact the formula of God. It supports the pantheistic view that this cosmic order is God. Because whatever exists in the universe is either mass or energy. Both are interchangeable and the law of conservation of energy tells us that the total energy in the universe can neither be created nor destroyed, neither the increased nor decreased. So, if pure energy is God, and it can be converted to matter, then it is omnipresent and omnipotent. Everything that exists is part of god or in fact God itself. It has been said in Hindu philosophy 'Kan kan mein Bhagwan hai' God is present in every grain. But can we say by virtue of Einstein's theorem that 'Kan kan Bhagwan hain' - every grain is god? But people will not easily accept the concept of the cosmic order as God because it will be of no use in their matters of day to day survival.
In ancient Europe, disputes were often decided by making the people involved to fight between themselves. It was believed that God would help the right person to win. But today we do not solve our disputes like that. We do not think that in case of a fight between two people there is much scope for God's intervention. Similarly if we closely observe many other day to day affairs of the world, we will find that there is not much scope for God in them as well.
To conclude, I would say that in context of our present knowledge and under application of rigorous logic, the concept of an immanent, personal God does not stand much of chance. But whether God exists in some transcendent form or not can not be said with certainty. The concept of God is linked with the creation of the universe which is the ultimate and the biggest mystery. I believe that only after all lesser mysteries of the world have been solved and all knowledge has been gained, might we be in a position to know whether God actually exists or not. Till then, anything that is said about God will be pure speculation. Till then, it will be as true to say that God exists, as to say that God does not exist or that this cosmic order is God in itself. So, was Buddha right in refusing to speculate about the existence or absence of God? Is the search for God an exercise in futility after all? Perhaps we will know one day or we will never know.
